ON THE PATH With our busy hectic lives in today's modern society we move through life in a very un-harmonious way trying to find happiness and purpose. Society programs us to search for more. Buy more stuff, create more excitement and try to be more because what you are and what you have is not enough. It is time to begin reducing and simplifying your life and getting back to what will make you happy and healthy. Now is the time to create a simple natural life. I'm not advocating selling everything, shaving your head and chanting all day long. But, I am talking about beginning to look at your life and examining what is serving your life and what your life is serving. If some thing in your life is serving you by making you happier and healthier then continue to keep it in your life. If you serve something that it is not making you happier and healthier then work to eliminate that thing from your life. I frequently ask my patients If you could have any job, what would that be? About 80% of the time they say an occupation other than what they are doing. Why are they still there? They make a decision to stay in that job and they wake up every day with bad feelings about where they work and what they are doing with their life. According to the principals of Chinese Medicine, the emotions anger/frustration negatively effect the liver. The Liver's function is to promote the smooth circulation of Qi (energy or life force) throughout the body. If the Qi is not flowing, as it should, then the body mind and/or spirit could become dis-eased. Now I am not advocating the submission of your resignation tomorrow just because your job makes you unhappy. I am encouraging you to begin thinking about what it is that you would like to do, if you could do anything. Many of my patients when asked, "What do you want in you life?" reply that they want to be rich or famous. When we discuss this further the underlying desire is for this person to feel a sense of abundance in their life or to be recognized and loved. I do not think there is anything wrong with being rich or famous. However, to be happy you must first feel abundance and feel loved. If you do not already possess this internally, no amount of money or recognition will make you happy. Here is an example; I worked for about four years as a paramedic in the late eighties. For the first two years, I worked in predominantly low-income areas around the city of Atlanta. In the first two years, I was called out on maybe a dozen suicide attempts. The last year and a half, I worked in North Fulton County. This area is quite affluent. And during this time, I was called out on three times the number of suicide attempts I had seen in South Atlanta. I was always amazed as I walked through the magnificent homes that anyone could live like this and be unhappy. Some people have everything material that they could ever want but inside they are empty. When you begin to think about those things that you want in your life, like maybe a new job, think about what this dream job represents to you. Then begin to manifest this in your life. Gentle Path Acupuncture is here to assist you to realize your dreams and create a healthy, happy life. My goal is to not complicate your life but to simplify it. By eliminating the excess you are able to live more naturally and peacefully. Your energy will not be constantly drained from you and your body will have the opportunity to repair itself. It is all about becoming the individual you have always wanted to be and helping others to do the same in the process. It is time for you to take responsibility for yourself and the life you want. Take this step for you, for your health, for your happiness. | |||||
